Advice to Visitors

This is an experimental personal web page which is subject to constant change. A lot of things I intend to write about will be subjective and would not generally be in line with current socials norms. This is just a short introduction, to give you a chance to leave now.

In the unlikely event that you would like to satisfy your curiosity, it won't be ready until next year. It would not be of interest to many people, so don't be surprised if you turn out to be the only member. There will be no advertisements, no fun activities or exciting pictures. What you will get is a lot of disconnected ramblings of an octogenerian.

I've provided a contact form above, in case you really need to get in touch with me. Time is precious to me. I shall take note or action if necessary but do not expect and response from me.

Currently will be learning how to use the programming codes.
All the content on this site is used to verify the codes I have created.
A lot of the links are just place holders - hope to create them starting from Jan 2023.
Articles would be family based activities and general education.
If time permits, I shall share my thoughts on my perspective of life and the world in general. (web)

Creating a website

Creating a website is no big deal for the current generation - they could probably do it in one day.
However, an octogenerian trying to complete the website in one year, self-taught, with some health issues, requires a great deal of effort.
I believe many of you know how to use the computer - but how many of you can create your own website?
I shall try to go through the stages of my development - hopefully you will understand the difficulties I faced or in case you wish to create your own website.
Be warned though, at the end of all my hard work, this will only be a functional website. It would not meet the standars required for commercial use.
Take note, there is no creativity involved because the free codes are created by a lot of other people on the internet. My thanks to all those unknown programmers.

What do you need to create a website?

You need to know how to use a computer to create your code.
You will need a server so that what you create can be viewed by other internet users. Here you have two choices.
- pay a service to a hosting company - the easiest way in terms of configurations and applications. Problem is that everything is on a cloud server subject to T&C from the company.
- create a server using your own computer via free ip address with limited functionality. - no additional cost.
I have chosen to invest in a NAS which has everying I need to create my own website. The advantage here is that I have total control over my content and website including backups with no additonal cost.
Once the website has been created, you. need to learn programming language where there is a lot of free material available on the internet. It took me about 6 months just to learn html with css.
Some of the problems I resolved with a lot of trial and error:
- I use a desktop to create the codes and obtained the desired outcomes.
- However when viewed from mobile and tablets, the result is completely unacceptable.
- Samples of php tutorials are fine when testing it with specific outcome in mind, but had to spend a lot of time just to be able to use it with html codes
- Searching for solutions on the internet is time consuming, because it may not be suitable for the version you are using or too difficult to understand the code.
